"YOU JUST can't keep a software product man out of action for long. Pravin Gandhi, a key player in the launch and success of Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) accounting software, E.X., is back in business after two years of hibernation. This Silicon Valley wannabe has converted his dream concept into a software product, nVEST, which enables you to manage and monitor your financial portfolio at home.
After his stint with TCS, Gandhi set up his own company, CeMaze Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Not wanting to hire any programmers as he could not guarantee them a job, he outsourced the software coding work for nVEST to a company that put up three programmers for the work. It took over the two years to develop nVEST; and Gandhi paid Rs 6 lakh for the coding work.
nVEST is the culmination of a study on the utility of the computer for the common man. Equally important has been consumer behaviour, the critical question being how to attract and keep the common man involved with the software throughout the year.
Gandhi sought to identify an application whose value could be realised immediately-something easy and entertaining to use, involving minimal data entry, with the ability to arouse the inquisitive nature of the individual. ``nVEST revolves around the world of investments for the family man. But it is not tailored for those in the investments business.'' nVEST's snappy communication strap line, `'What am I worth today?'' sums it all up. …….
